Teak Patio Furniture Has Enduring Charm

For centuries, teakwood has been highly prized for its radiant beauty, as well as its incredible strength and natural decay-resistance. It is produced by the Tectona Grandis tree, which is indigenous to Asia, especially Myanmar, Thailand, India, and Indonesia. In ancient Thailand, it was once so revered, in fact, that it was considered to be a royal tree. Teak has long been used for making roofing and siding, walls, floors, doors, mantels, cabinets, closets, picture frames, and sculptures. These days, it is frequently used for making patio furniture as well.

It's easy to understand the universal appeal of teak. The soil in which it grows is so abundant in oils and minerals, including silica, that they permeate the tree, creating wood that is waxy, rubbery, and dense. These desirable properties make it naturally waterproof, decay-resistant, repellent to insects, and thermally stable, which prevents this straight-grained wood from warping. Teak is also an uncommonly resplendent wood, which normally ranges from amber to dark brown, but sometimes has a reddish cast. It can be treated with a coating of oil annually, to maintain its natural color, or left to weather to a silvery gray.

Since the Middle Ages, teak has been used for building ships. Still a favorite in the industry, its inherent resistance to salt water prevents it from decaying, while its unparalleled strength and durability allow it to endure long voyages, foot traffic from crews and passengers, heavy cargo and equipment, and fishing nets laden with the day's catch. Beyond merely withstanding all of this punishment, the wood also maintains its beauty. In fact, after World War I, members of the British Navy, while taking warships apart, were stunned to see that the decks were still in immaculate condition. Some of the wood was then used to build garden benches, and the tradition of making teak outdoor furniture had begun.

Many of those benches are still in use today, some in English gardens, and some lining the parks of London. After more than 80 years of snow, sleet, rain, heat, humidity, and heavy use, these benches have retained their structural integrity. The bench's slotted surface allows rain to flow through, rather than collect and damage the wood. The piece is made from kapur wood, a high-density Southeast Asian hardwood with excellent weather-resistant properties. Light enough to move easily around deck or lawn, kapur requires no finishing and is exceptionally-sturdy--with enough oil to repel the ravages of rain, sun, and dew. Rust-resistant hardware and mortise and tenon construction also add to the piece's strength and durability.

Before shipment, your new furniture received a generous application of teak oil. Teak oil provides protection from the ultraviolet sunrays. Left untreated, Kapur will weather to a soft warm shade of gray similar to the weathering of teak. If you prefer to prevent this weathering process, you may apply additional coats of teak oil. The frequency of necessary teak oil applications will depend on the intensity of the sun in your environment, but typically, one or two coats per year is sufficient. Teak oil can usually be found at a marine dealer, hardware store, or internet dealer. If you allow your furniture to weather, you may later decide that you would want to restore it to its original condition. This is possible by using teak cleaner products, also available at most marine dealers and internet dealers. After following the instructions for cleaning, you will want to apply a coat of teak oil to prevent the weathering process.

ordered a set of these sarongs for use around the pool and at the beach but have found myself wearing one around the house a lot. They are very soft and comfortable and fantastic on a warm morning. My granddaughter fell in love with mine, so I am now ordering another set for her and her mom. Many websites can be found that show you how to tie them as a dress, a skirt, or a headwrap.

Customer Review: Nice Product- No Technical Support

In the 2 years or so that I have owned this product I have gotten much use and enjoyment from it. After playing around with it for a while I have learned to "hack" items to create furniture not included in the game. The software features many colors, textures, and layout options.

But not all is well. You are on your own if you should ever have any questions. This software is no longer technically supported. The image importer isn't much help except for putting photographs on the walls. The accessories selections are minimal,and any landscape ideas will have to be left to your imagination.

Overall, not a bad product though.

Customer Review: Very powerful for the price

I was very pleasantly surprised at just how good this software turned out to be. It's easy to use, but still very functional for coming up with home interior designs. Although it is distributed by Activion, it is really based on the same software as the "Better Homes & Gardens Home Design" program.

Having the ablity to see a decorating idea on the computer does make a difference when designing your home. The software enabled me to adjust my designs based on the difference of what I thought something would look like in my minds eye, and how it will actually look in my home, via the 3D recreation. Best $20 I spent in a long time.

I have not gotten to the "Design Challenge" game part of the program. I've been having too much fun re-doing my own house.

This is an excellent product!!! I had originally purchased a white noise CD but the CD started to skip. This is better product than the CD alone because of the timer and projection screen. This lives up to its name. This device has 3 soothing tunes of Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars, The Cradle Song and Rock-a-bye baby and 3 synthesized sounds of mom's heartbeat, the ocean and rain. It has a volume adjustable button and the sound is not tinny but of a great quality.

The projector system is very versatile. As long as you have a surface on which to project you can change the angle and the sharpness of the image to accommodate your little one's line of vision. This comes with three discs for projection. One with sheep,moon and stars, another with a jungle theme and another with an aquatic theme.

It also has a timer with 15 minute intervals up to 60 minutes so you can set the duration of the sounds and projection.

My Little one who was 2 weeks when first introduced to this device focused more on the sounds than the images but I guess when she is older she will be able to appreicate the projected images. It lulls her to sleep and soothes her when she is fussy.

It is also very well built in my opinion due to the fact that it has fallen several times on tiled surfaces and is still going strong. The only flaw I found with this device was the fact that you couldn't play the sounds in succession it just repeats the one selected.

This is a great device at a great price!

Customer Review: Amazing Wall Mount!

I used this to mount my 32" Sharp Aquos LCD and am extremely happy with the results. The mounting process was fairly simple, just 4 screws in the wall and 4 in the back of the TV. I mounted it on 2 studs and it is very sturdy. Once mounted, the TV can be tilted and also slid to the left or right if you want to adjust the horizontal position. If you are looking for a wall mount for your 40" or less LCD TV, this is the way to go!

Customer Review: Great Value for Flat Screen Mount

There are certainly a lot of different mounts for flat-screen televisions on the market and most seem very expensive. The MT25-B1 is one of the cheaper alternatives. It is a no-frills mount, to be sure. It offers about 7-8° of vertical tilt, up or down. It has a very low profile, which can make connections difficult on some televisions (I recommend having a photo or other image of the connections panel of your TV *before* mounting). However, the low-profile looks great once installed and despite the tight space behind the television is a key feature of this mount. The black powder coated metal is heavy gage and feels very substantial.

Installation is 2-3 connectors, most types of which are provided. We opted for two lag screws into a wood stud. This installation was simple and fast (about 20 minutes for something I had never done before). The mount is very sturdy with no movement in the television at all. The threaded knobs on each side keep the TV at the angle we place it at. The television brackets can even be padlocked to the wall mount for situations where security is needed.

The only drawback of this mount is that the connectors must be centered on the mount, limiting placement to where wall structural elements are located (that is, you can't really offset it laterally along your wall).

For reference, this mount is supporting a 40" Samsung LCD (LNT4053H).
